How to Create The Best Customer Experience

Posted by Nadia Burgess on January 3, 2017

P1000869Customer experience begins as soon as your client walks through your door. With this in mind, it’s vital for you to give them the very best experience. Not only will that give them the confidence that you’re a true professional but it will also give them plenty of ammo to spread the word amongst their friends and family, helping to build your brand awareness.

The experience starts from the first contact

Whether it’s a phone call, face to face meeting or a message via social media, keeping a professional yet friendly tone throughout your communications should be at the forefront of your mind. You want to remain personable so your client can approach you with any questions or concerns they have, but at the same time it’s key not to lose a professional touch. After all, you are performing an invasive procedure, so you should show clients that you are knowledgeable and they are in safe hands with you.

Explain the procedure clearly

As difficult as it may be, try to avoid jargon and technical talk when explaining the procedure to your client and any potential clients. This will keep the individual informed and manage their expectations of will be achieved during the treatment. During the consultation, you should also ignite two-way conversations and ask lots of open questions so you can decide on the perfect brow shape, lip colour or eyeliner treatment whilst making your client feel comfortable.

Give the client confidence

It goes without saying that your treatment room should be extremely clean and free from clutter, so we advise you to block out some time each day to give your space a thorough deep clean. When thinking about cleanliness, it’s a nice touch to show the client the brand-new needles when you get them out of the packaging so there is no doubt in their mind that you are using fresh needles for their treatment. Likewise, at the end of the treatment dispose of the needles straight away too.

Create the right atmosphere

Think about other factors too; have a variety of music on hand that can be tailored to the clients’ preferences to help them to relax. The last thing you want to do is unnerve a client, especially if it’s their first procedure, so make sure there are no distractions. Switch your phone off and ensure that there will be no one coming into your room during the treatment, your client needs to feel that they are your number 1 priority at all times. The less contact you have with other people or objects the smaller the chance of any cross-contamination risks too. Try not to talk about your personal life with a client too much, the appointment should be all about them and make them feel special.

A parting gift

After going through the aftercare instructions, why not give your client, old or new, a little parting gift? A branded gift bag containing their aftercare balm, instructions, your business card and a handwritten thank you note is a very nice touch which we have seen be highly effective with numerous artists. If you want to go the extra mile, you could even include some individually wrapped sweet treats, a makeup item or a mini set of toiletries. It won’t cost you much in comparison to the cost of the treatment so making a special effort will help you stand out and be remembered for all the right reasons. Plus, they are likely to share the photo on social media, giving you free increased exposure.

What do you like to do to give your clients the best experience? We’d love you to share your tips and tell us about the amazing things that you do so we can all learn from one another.

“It’s never too late to change your career and follow your dreams”

It’s been a busy year at our Permanent Cosmetics Training Academy and there’s nothing we love more than hearing how our students are getting on once they have completed their course and qualified.

Fifty-two-year-old Paula Elvey started her Permanent Makeup journey with Nouveau Contour after deciding to start a new career and leave her job selling electric components. Just two years after completing her training in 2014 she won a UK Micropigmentation Award which is a huge accolade for any Permanent Cosmetics Artist. After being nominated by one of her clients, she entered, was shortlisted and won the ‘Best Simi-Permanent Artist – Two Years Experience and Under’ category. The judging process involved submitting case studies on eyes, brows and lip treatments to be examined by an expert panel as well as using Mystery Shoppers to get a better insight in to service she offers. She has achieved so much in a short space of time and we couldn’t be more proud!

Paul with her award

Since graduating as a Permanent Makeup Artist she has been hard at work perfecting her craft and changing people’s lives, but nothing could have prepared her for how rewarding her new found career could be. The passion, emotion and life changing results Paula is able to give her clients is one of the main things she loves about her career.

“I have witnessed and shared pure moments of delight with an 82 year old who ‘hasn’t had brows for decades’, and tears of joy from a working mum who is simply sick of spending 1-2 hours per week drawing her eyebrows on – and badly!“

When speaking about her decision to train with Nouveau Contour Paula said: “Originally, my aim when deciding to train in this demanding – but so rewarding – industry, was to delight my clients and enhance their features, which would naturally enhance their confidence.  That’s why I did my research and chose the very best Academy out there, which was Karen Betts and Nouveau Contour. Was it tough? Absolutely. But I wanted to be the best I could be, and I was sure – if I listened, practised, studied, practised, and practised again – they were the best team to do that.”

“I started training in Permanent Cosmetics at the age of 50 so my message to anyone out there who thinks they might be too old to be a part of this fab industry – look at me!”

We’re sure you’ll agree Paula’s story is very inspiring and proves It’s never too late to change your career and follow your dreams.

How to Attract New Clients and Keep Them Too

Posted by Nadia Burgess on November 14, 2016

How to attract new clients for your beauty businessA huge part of creating a successful business is tailoring your products and services around the demands of your client. Having a loyal group of customers is what will keep your beauty business thriving and, if you know how to attract some new customers and hold onto them, you will be able to grow your business with ease.

Create Your Portfolio

First things first, you need to show off what you can do. From the moment you perform a treatment on a live model, start recording your progress. With permanent cosmetics particularly, each client will need a tailored treatment unique to them, so collecting great before and after photos will help you put together a well-rounded portfolio to show your potential clients a wide range of skills and techniques.

Present everything in a professionally printed booklet or folder and use it as a tool to show clients when they come in for a consultation. A professional looking portfolio shows customers you’re experienced, versatile and, most importantly, skilled!

Market Yourself

Marketing covers much more than the huge campaigns you see on TV or in glossy magazines, start small and you can still see some great results.

Most of us use social media on a daily basis so why not utilise your existing following and promote yourself using before and after shots and treatment availabilities. Approaching people that already know you in the first place will help with building trust and, you never know, they might go on to tell their friends too.

It doesn’t stop at social media though, setting up your own website will give you a little corner of the internet to talk about your business and really sell yourself. Having a place to link enquiries to and keep visitors updated with the latest news and events is invaluable when it comes to capturing potential customers searching for permanent cosmetics treatments on the web. You can display a Nouveau Contour badge on your site when you have trained with us so that every visitor recognises you are trained to the highest standard. You don’t have to be a tech guru either, there’s plenty of sites you can use which have ready-made templates that you can customise easily to get you up and running in no time.

There’s lots of ways you can spread the word offline too, advertising in local papers and handing out flyers to local shops and cafes. When you train with Nouveau Contour we will provide you with marketing materials to make promoting yourself a breeze. Once you have your materials in hand you can also start attending beauty trade shows and events. Which brings us nicely onto our next point…

Start Networking

Attending events doesn’t just mean exhibiting at them, you can attend them as a delegate too. Meet other like-minded people in the industry and share tips, tricks and best practice. It’s a great opportunity to make valuable contacts along the way. If you do choose to exhibit at a show, do your research into the kind of delegates that will be attending and make sure they are your ideal customers. Have plenty of literature on hand for people to take away with them and, wherever possible, note down some contact details for them and what you have specifically discussed so that you can tailor your follow up calls a few days later.

Practice Great Customer Service

Once you have welcomed a new customer, make sure they have an amazing experience. Choosing to have permanent makeup can be a big decision for your customer so from the very first time they contact you or walk through the door, be professional, approachable and welcoming. Your client may know very little detail of the procedure or healing process so explain and manage their expectations right from the start. This will help give them a memorable experience for all the right reasons. A happy customer will be your biggest asset and are much more likely to sing your praises and share their experience with friends and family. Once the procedure is complete, it doesn’t end there. Keep in touch with a quick follow up call to see how the healing process is going a few days after their appointment. The reassurance you can give to a customer is priceless; it will put their mind at ease and make them feel more comfortable to raise any other queries they have with you.

Follow all these pointers and you will soon be on your way to generating a loyal following of happy customers to help your permanent cosmetics business thrive!
